On Saturday evening we went to Umami in Rabat (a 2 min walk from Mdina gates) with a group of friends to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. I’d never been before and it was recommend by one of our friends who is a foodie, so he normally has good recommendations.
To be honest, I had never actually heard of this place before. But I checked out the menu online and it sounded delicious, so we decided to give it a go.
We arrived on time for our reservation and was greeted warmly by the staff. Even though it was blowing a gale outside, it was nice and cosy inside.
For starters I ordered the Herb Gnocchi, it wasn’t quite sure what to except but – my gosh it was amazing. And I’m even still thinking about this dish now it was that amazing. It’s not something I would normally order, but I didn’t fancy any other of the starters but I’m so glad I picked this (and I’ll be picking next time too…which will hopefully be very soon).
For my main (which I forgot to take a picture of – bad blogger I know!), I had the pork cheeks. It came with a sauce that was really rich, but it wasn’t overpowering and complemented the cheeks nicely. They had a good selection of mains, so I think I might try something different next time as everybodys food at the table looking mouth watering.
For dessert – there is always room for dessert right?.. I went for the Apple and Caramel Toffee Pudding Cake (I’m still avoiding chocolate for lent!), and I’m super happy with my choice. This was amazing – it’s similar to a sticky toffee pudding and it just rounded the night off nicely.
Afterwards we had coffees and digestifs and chatted for a while. Even thought it was almost midnight the staff were in no rush for us to leave.
So If you’re looking for a new restaurant in Malta (or you’ll be visiting soon) to try. I highly recommend you go to Umami. The setting is equally as beautiful as the food presentation and is a quaint little restaurant.
