Having social media icons on your blog page will help your users engage with you and easily find your social media profiles. If I find a new blogger that I love, I’ll always follow them on other platforms for extra content.
On my blog, you’ll notice the icons on the side bar to the right. This is what they look like:
By clicking on each one, they take you to a different social media profile and you can follow me there (and you totally should!.
Adding these little icons to your blog can be simple, just follow the steps below:
- First off you’ll need images of icons, there are plenty available around the web. Just look on google and there are plenty of free icons available. If you prefer the more traditional ones (blue Facebook button), I search on google images for ‘Facebook icon 22×22’ – the ’22×22’ is the pixel size, you can adjust depending on how large or small you’d like the icons.
- Next you’ll need to host these images somewhere. You can either upload them directly to WordPress (if that’s what you’re using), or on hosting sites like Flickr or Photobucket.
- Now that you have your images ready, you’ll need to add them to your blog. Start or by deciding on where you want to place them. If your using widgets you’ll want to select the ‘html code’ version so you can add in your own code. Use the following code:
<a href=”http://www.twitter.com/somftblog”><img src=”http://www.image.com”>
In the above example, I’m linking an image to my twitter page. Change”http://www.image.com” to the url of where you hosted your images, and ”http://www.twitter.com/somftblog”.
Repeat this with every icon you want to display, changing the href and img src each time for the profile link and the url of where the image is hosted.
